Aims

Hobbies

What I want

  1. Enjoyment - do at least one hobby that I enjoy
  2. Return to analog - no tech allowed!
  3. Real - get into something creative that creates an finished output e.g. knitted scarf or paper mache sculpture
  4. Exercise - be sporty (a little bit harder to alone)
  5. Learning - applying and challenging myself intellectually
  6. Security - Find something useful that could be monetised if needed

A bit more depth

1. Enjoyment

The most important part of doing any hobby is fun. Why else are you doing it? If the main purpose was for money or fame or something else then it would be a job.

A lot of people are monetising their passions and there is nothing wrong with that.

In fact it's on my list as well, but pure enjoyment for the sake of it is important to me too.

2. Return to analog

Everything seems to be online these days and I'm SICK of it.(Bit ironic considering I decided to journal online but whatever).

My point is that so much of my life is centered around devices and I'm frustrated with it.

I want to have fun without tech and do something with my hands.

3. Real

In that same stem of doing something with my hands, having physical proof of progress is amazing.

Like yeah, I did make a mug I drink out of every day. No I didn't buy that rug, I made it myself.

A lot of the time, learning new things is super frustrating because I can't tell if I am actually getting better at anything.

That's why I want to focus more on creative hobbies; proof of change.

4. Learning

AI is everywhere and I am a hater. I like using semicolons, you know what else does? AI.

I am NOT getting accused of using AI when I can do it myself.

Why use AI to create an image when I can do it really really badly?

You gotta use your brain sometime, might as well have some fun with it.

Another thing is that tiktok and I have an unhealthy relationship. Mind off, app open.

They don't call it brainrot for nothing; my mind needs to be sharp.

I'm planning starting a spanish course in September so no updates on that front yet. But until then I'll be thinking of ideas...

5. Exercise

The mind can be sharp but the body matters too!

...And I have absolutely no upper body strength

Seriously, I cannot do a single pushup and it's so embarassing to actively, visibly struggle when lifting things.

Sometimes a girl has to lock in.

6. Security

The economy is bad, real bad.

A back-up plan is a must perhaps even 2...

Bottom line: I like having options. Linear career paths are outdated anyway

Have I achieved my goals?

Wait and see!
