I'm pretty sure this was my first real hobby. Like many others, I loved reading so so much.
It's harder now being grown up; my tastes have changed and the genres I loved don't feel the same as they once did.
There's things I'm avoiding and things I'm trying to find in books that I haven't been able to recently.
Old classics have lured me back in to the water but not into the depths, metaphorically speaking of course.
Pride & Prejudice and Hunger Games were such fantastic reads but it's been hard to find other books that give me the same thrill as when I was younger. I got stuck very early on with Anne with an E.
It used to be my go to response about my interests but now it doesn't even come to mind. It's a weird feeling...
I started with HTML, CSS came with and now I need Javascript too. Just fell into it and accepted it.
I like making something where I can see it change in front of my eyes like a proof of life.
I'm not a super creative person so I have been struggling with what to add and how to make it look good which sucks.
I'm also super obsessive about stuff I like so I tend to burn out pretty fast.
1,5,6 and perhaps even 2. Hopefully all of my hobbies achieve 1 (enjoyment) so I'll only mention that here once. For 6, I feel like I'm learning something that would be an asset for the future. In terms of 5 (learning), I feel like a lot of my stuff is widgets or that link to other websites so it's a little shaky on that front. At the same time, I had to have learnt something because on day 1, despite dabbling in HTML very briefly, I could not do most of this.
I'm going to make this website look like I like it more than I hate it - low bar but at least it's there.
To see the change.
Consistency and I are not best friends. I have tried in the past to journal but paper journals always make me hesistant to write in them. What I take this beautiful book and write in my terrible handwriting and make it ugly and nothing at all like I want it to look? Then the slightly deeper concerns. What if someone finds it and reads it and knows me? What then...
That's why I love this. Who cares? It's anonymous and someone would have to dig to find this - a random webpage, on the less popular side of the internet, made too late for any type of popularity. That, and I'm actually doing things to write so it doesn't feel as stupid either.
Perhaps 3? Yikes, this whole aims thing is not going well lol
Just keep swimming. Update whenever, I usually do it daily but I don't want to pressure myself into it so keeping it easy breezy.
Why not this?
I did French and I thought I sucked but when I started getting good and liking it and really getting into it, school finished and I said I would pick it up and never did. But Spanish isn't French so what am I on about? I didn't stick with it but it helped me regain confidence about my ability to learn languages. When I was younger, it was kind of shoved into me that I sucked at languages and for a while I really just had those thoughts about myself running around, especially when my friend was so much better at it than me. Comparison to others by others and myself had me dead in the water at the start. I ended up realising at the very end that I wasn't a total failure at languages. Eventually I do want to do French again but I thought it might be time to try something new. Firstly, because it was hard to figure out where to pick up French from? My grammar is rusty but not enough that restarting wouldn't feel super frustrating. Secondly, I think I would use Spanish more often - I wanted to go one day, at least for a vacation.
Being competent and having a useful skill.
Also, I love hearing people speak languages I know or recognise. Not even drama, just like random words, like yes I do know what red is in Spanish, boom.
Grammar, gendered nouns and crappy apps. Why is it good for only 8 lessons?! Also, accents. Accents - I hate having to write the little é and stuff, it's so hard on my computer.
5+6 - I have gots to find me some sporty hobbies
Trying this out officially in Sept-Oct onwards if I get into the programme I applied for!
Um... I don't know if this counts as a hobby...but I have lowkey been obsessed with the concept of surviving on a deserted island.
I guess this is more of a niche interest/knowledge thingy but I will count it.
I have watched so many videos and I have strategies and there is actually a website to book the experience of it and I was contemplating it but I don't really want to starve to death so like... yeah. But one day, potentially but probably never, you may want me on your team - just saying.
I don't know, your guess is as good as mine. It's a fun concept. What can I say?
I know I said I wouldn't mention this but I'm pretty sure it's only 1 and some of 5 being achieved so like?
None. Absolutely 0 interest in bringing this to reality for real. No thanks. Might carry like rope and duct tape around from now on though.
Don't do this at home kids!
I'm a nerd
I've always liked learning and I've clung on to it like a clingy child to their mother. It got me through a lot and I use it like a crutch. Why face the world when I can stay right here, safe and sound, with the things I know. I wasn't ready to work. I wanted experiences and another life. I changed a lot and I regretted it, I regretted a lot.
You know the quote. Slyvia Plath and the fig tree and lost paths. I wanted to do medicine. I still do. This is as close as I'll get to ever doing something like it again: chose the wrong fig. Now I see online lectures on anything related and wish I could do it. I know I wouldn't be any good and that's partly why I didn't try the whole way. But in some ways I regret it and I miss what it could have been and who I coul have been. The thing is a lot happened at that time and if that was the fig I chose, it would have rotted in my hands before I ever took a bite. A bit depressing right? My fig isn't bad, just not filling.

Learning
Learning. Boom.
I saw it online and I do like a puzzle.
It's cute but not something I can do all the time. I wouldn't consider this so much a hobby as a pastime.
I'm sure linguists would beg to differ but for me this is just a way to pass time on a train or something.
